Unit 7 · Equilibrium
Lesson 62 of 91

7.5 Magnitude of the Equilibrium Constant

01What K tells you

K ≫ 1: products favored at equilibrium. K ≪ 1: reactants favored. K ≈ 1: comparable amounts.

K says nothing about speed.

02Notebook box

K = 1010 → essentially complete. K = 10^−10 → barely happens.

Worked example: Ksp of AgCl = 1.8 × 10^−10 → very little dissolves.

Key takeaways
  • ✦Big K = products.
  • ✦Small K = reactants.
  • ✦K ≠ rate.
Quick check

Did it stick?

1.K = 4 × 10^−8. Equilibrium favors…

2.A large K means the reaction is…

3.K ≈ 1 means…
